Office Fun for a More Enjoyable Workplace

The office doesn’t have to be boring and unpleasant, at least not all the time! There are lots of little changes you can make to encourage fun and enjoyment at work. Many progressive companies are taking note of studies that say happy employees are productive employees, and integrating fun and luxury into their offices. There are many ways to do this, so you’re sure to come across the perfect method of lightening things up in your office.
Distributing office-related (but clean and non-offensive) jokes to employees each morning is one way to give everyone a laugh first thing in the morning, when they need it the most. You can even do this via email, as a countless number of such jokes can be found online. Another idea is to hang inspirational and motivational art on the walls. If each employee works in their own cubicle, they should be able to decorate their walls as they choose.
Indoor plants and flowers can add life and beauty to any office. Just make sure they’re healthy and well-cared for. Not only can plants perk up the look and mood in the office, they can contribute to healthier air quality. You might even want to bring in a fish tank filled with colourful fish. Simply watching fish swim can be very relaxing and a perfect way to relieve workplace stress.
Try making one day per week casual day, which means your employees can wear jeans and trainers to work. Having a potluck day is also a good idea. Each employee can bring in a different dish such as an appetizer, entree, dessert or side dish. You can even organize nights out for employees. Try a karaoke outing or gather at a local pub for a few drinks on a Friday night. Outings like these foster a spirit of family and teamwork among co-workers.
Many companies have sports teams, like employee football teams. Playing together on a team against another company’s team can bring co-workers even closer together and help them learn to effectively work together. Not only that, but sporting events can be a lot of fun. Another good idea to foster fun in the workplace is by recognizing personal milestones of co-workers and employees.
For example, employee birthdays should be celebrated with cake and small gifts or at least a card signed by everyone. If an employee is having a baby, throw a baby shower. For those who are retiring, have a retirement party. Marking important events fun celebrations make people feel special and add enjoyment to the office environment.
Remember, happy workers are productive workers. Adding enjoyment and inspiration to the office might seem like a waste of time, but it’s quite the contrary. By cultivating a spirit of teamwork, friendship and fun, employees become more invested in the company, more loyal, and happier. And isn’t that the kind of office we all want to work in?
