Convenient Office Lunch Options

July 24th, 2007 by Jurga Galvan

If you work in an office, it’s important to have plenty of lunch options available to you. Everyone needs to eat, and the more choices you have the better. In this article, you will learn more about some convenient and creative ways to have lunch at work. The first option we’ll discuss is having food delivered to the office. There are several ways to do this.

You could have a sandwich van stop at your office with freshly prepared choices. Many lunch delivery places take orders by the day or by the week from offices. You and your co-workers can decide what you want, then call in your order. The food is prepared and delivered to your office, which is a convenient lunch choice. Or, you could order from a delivery or take away restaurant online. Many restaurants are offering this option these days. When you order online, you can view the menu, specify what you want and when you want it, and pay using any major credit card. It’s even easier than calling in your order via phone. Some people choose to fax their lunch orders in. It all depends on where you order from and the options for ordering that they offer.

If you work in a small office with only a few other people, you can get creative with lunch. For example, you could try “lunch pooling”. Lunch pooling is where each person takes a turn providing lunch for the rest of the office. This works best in offices of five or less. For larger offices, pot-lucking is a nice idea. This is where everyone brings a dish. You can distribute a sign up sheet where people can sign up to bring appetizers, entrees, side dishes and desserts. Those who don’t want to bring food can bring drinks and plastic plates and utensils.

Of course, you could eat out at lunch. The difficulty here is avoiding unhealthy fast food and making healthy choices. Salad is always a good choice when you visit a fast food restaurant. Another option is to bring lunch from home. Packing your own lunch is healthy and cost efective. If your office has a refrigerator and microwave, which most offices these days do, you can bring most anything from home including leftovers to heat up. Bringing lunch from home can be an economical way to eat well at work.

If you’re unsure about which lunch options are best for your office, ask the people you work with what they prefer. You can alternate lunch options to make things interesting. One day you can order lunch, one day you can try lunch pooling or a pot-luck. If you work in your own office by yourself, take turns bringing lunch from home and buying lunch from a restaurant. This way you won’t get bored with your lunch choices and will be able to have plenty of variety. When you are able to enjoy a delicious, healthy lunch at work, you are often more energetic and productive. Therefore, make an effort to choose well-balanced, healthy foods rather than fat-laden choices that are unhealthy. Improving your diet at work can improve your outlook, and your health!
