Company Branding in the Office

April 4th, 2008 by Jurga Galvan

Company branding in the office is a technique that many companies utilize. Placement of logos and slogans is supposed to increase brand awareness to the users of the objects. The company can either use the pens, mugs and mouse pads to attempt to increase brand awareness in the company itself or to clients and exterior stakeholders.

Internal Marketing:

The theory is that if employees are constantly bombarded with items that contain the company logo then this will increase brand awareness and improve corporate culture. It is the idea that if everyone is made aware of the company’s maxims through the objects around them and the tools that they use then the employees will feel more part of the company. Therefore ideals of the corporate culture the company wants to create will filter through to employee’s subconscious through the visual aid.

However, there is very little evidence that logo placement increases brand awareness within the company. Recent surveys have shown that few employees regard the logos on their mugs and pens as a motivator or inducing a feeling of belonging. Nevertheless brand awareness may be increased with the reminders of it on office tools.

External Marketing:

Effective marketing and advertising is essential for the success of any business. Brand awareness is crucial due to increasing competition and consumers and clients must be constantly reminded of your company’s brand. Pens, mugs and other office tools imprinted with the company logo or slogan can be effective advertising tools.

The fact that the products themselves are useful ensures that your message and brand will be noticed. With the huge increase in advertising of every kind, consumers are bombarded with commercial ideals all of the time, which has caused selective entry of these messages. However, the consistent exposure that branded items can offer spring-board your brand into becoming easily recognisable and a household name. Although there are not certifiable statistics to prove this claim, company branding can often act as a cheap and effective promotion of your brand.

Practical Branding Ideas for the Office:

  • Signage outside and inside the office
  • Posters of advertisements the company has run
  • Awards, certificates, commendations
  • Testimonials and thank you letters from clients
  • Employee of the month photos
  • Special mentions of employees such as those running a marathon for charity
  • Photos of company dos, team building activity days or other special events
  • Cups, pens, mousepads, keyrings, stressballs and other small items
